Methodology ledger-1.0

The basket is an editorial choice. The observations are not.

This methodology is published before the first index release so the weighting, exclusions, and publication threshold can be evaluated independently of the headline.

Observation unit

A matched public award and cash price for the same market, date, booking horizon, and cabin or hotel tier. Taxes and unavoidable fees are subtracted before cents per point is calculated.

Basket and weighting

A fixed, versioned basket covers ordinary economy and mid-tier use more heavily than premium-cabin outliers. Basket changes create a new version instead of rewriting history.

Publication threshold

A currency needs at least 60 observations in the release window. Below-threshold results may appear as provisional valuations but never enter the index.

Reality Gap

The sourced marketed narrative comparator minus observed P50. The comparator must have a source and verification date; SwitchWize does not invent one.

Audit trail

Each observation retains capture method, source URL and domain, basket cell, run ID, and a hash of the supporting source span. Published snapshots are immutable.

Known limits

Logged-out public availability differs by program. The index measures the disclosed basket, not every possible redemption, and excludes programs whose public data cannot be collected responsibly.

License and corrections

Published datasets are licensed CC BY 4.0 with attribution to SwitchWize. Corrections create a documented successor release; they do not silently overwrite a published snapshot.
