How to choose
What to weigh before you pick
It usually comes down to 3 things. Compare your options on each before deciding.
The all-in price, including fees that are easy to miss.
What each option actually does for your situation.
Which one matches how you will really use it.
SwitchWize may be compensated if you open an account through links on this page. That does not change how we research or write. The Bluevine comparison is based on Bluevine's published pricing pages, and the Grasshopper details come from Grasshopper's own product pages, which we checked on October 8, 2026, and, where labeled, from Grasshopper's partner materials. Neither company reviewed this article.
- Grasshopper's business checking lists no monthly fee and tiered interest up to 1.35% APY, dated 11/03/2025 on its own page, so it may have changed.
- Grasshopper's 1.00% cash back applies only to qualified debit purchases and only with a $10,000+ average balance in the calendar month.
- Bluevine Premier discloses a higher checking yield but carries a $95 monthly fee unless waived.
- The better fit depends on your average balance and whether you want to pay for a higher-yield plan.
Quick answer
If you want a no-fee checking account that still pays some interest, and a bank that also offers a term loan and SBA lending, Grasshopper fits. If you hold a large average balance and want the highest checking yield you can get without moving cash to a separate savings account, Bluevine Premier is worth running the numbers on. Below a certain balance the fee eats the extra yield, and our Bluevine Premier breakeven analysis shows where that line sits.
The comparison at a glance
Grasshopper figures are from Grasshopper's own product pages as checked on October 8, 2026, and we have not independently verified them. Grasshopper calls its checking product Innovator Business Checking, though its startup banking page shows it as Accelerator Checking. Rates carry Grasshopper's own dates and may have changed. Bluevine figures are per Bluevine's published pricing page as checked in September 2026. Confirm both on the company sites.

The fee question
The simplest way to compare is to put both on one balance. Grasshopper's business checking lists no monthly fees, so every dollar of interest it pays is yours. Bluevine Premier costs $95 a month, or $1,140 a year, before any waiver. According to our July 2026 article, the fee is waived when you hold a high average daily balance and meet a monthly debit spend requirement. If you reach those, the fee disappears and the comparison gets closer.
That is why we do not give a single winner. A company holding five figures would likely pay the fee out of pocket on Bluevine Premier. A company holding six figures may waive it and collect a higher yield. The calculators on this site can run your own average balance against either account.
Reading Grasshopper's rates correctly
Grasshopper's "up to 1.35% APY" on checking is a band rather than a flat rate: 1.00% on the first $24,999.99, 1.35% from $25,000 to $250,000, and 1.00% above $250,000. Grasshopper dates those checking rates 11/03/2025 and says rates may change after the account is opened, so they may have changed. Separately, Grasshopper's Innovator Savings page lists up to 3.00% APY (1.55% under $25,000, 3.00% at $25,000 and up, with a $100 opening deposit), dated 01/05/2026 and described as variable. That 3.00% is a savings rate. It does not apply to checking, and it should not be set against Bluevine's checking yield as if they were the same product.
What else differs
Grasshopper is a bank with an Innovator term loan (up to $200,000 per Grasshopper's partner materials, with rates as low as 6.99% APR; confirm with the bank) and SBA 7(a) lending. If you might borrow, that matters. See our Grasshopper business account review and SBA loans review.
Bluevine's pitch is applying yield directly to the checking balance so there is no sweep step, plus sub-accounts and payables tools on its plans. Confirm which of those features sit on which plan on Bluevine's own site, because plan structure changes.
Who should pick Bluevine instead
Choose Bluevine if you hold a large average balance, want yield directly on checking without a separate savings step, and either qualify for the fee waiver or have run the numbers and the extra yield clearly exceeds the $95 fee. It also suits owners who want its sub-account and payables tools on the same platform.
Who should pick Grasshopper
Choose Grasshopper if you want a checking account with no listed monthly fee, tiered interest, a savings account alongside it, and a bank that can also lend. It is also simpler: you are not tracking a fee waiver threshold each month.

- Which balance tier your cash falls in on Grasshopper.
- Whether you want a bank charter and lending in one place.
- For Grasshopper's cash back, whether you would hold a $10,000+ average balance each month.
