Ohio has the largest savings gap: about $310 a year per household

These lists show how much more interest a household would earn at the best rate than at the local rate. SwitchWize calls this the Bank Gap. Data as of November 5, 2026.

Coverage: 4 of 51 states and 15 metros

We publish a number only where the banks we track hold enough of the local deposits. Places that fall short are left out, not estimated, so a missing state does not mean a small gap. How coverage is decided.

How we calculated this

Each place's rate is the savings rate at local banks weighted by their share of deposits (FDIC Summary of Deposits). The gap is measured against the live top-3 average rate and turned into dollars with a typical balance for the area's income.

4 states and 15 metros cleared the coverage bar; 419 areas did not and are not shown.
